Product Overview

The MAX6696YAEE+ from Maxim Integrated Products is a dual remote/local temperature sensor with SMBus serial interface in 16 pin QSOP package. It accurately measure temperature of its own die and two remote diode connected transistors and report temperature in digital form on a 2-wire serial interface. The remote diode is typically emitter base junction of a common-collector PNP on a CPU, FPGA, GPU or ASIC. The 2-wire serial interface accepts standard system management bus (SMBus) commands such as write byte, read byte, send byte and receive byte to read the temperature data and program alarm thresholds and conversion rate. It can function autonomously with a programmable conversion rate which allows control of supply current and temperature update rate to match system needs. It has local temperature error of -3.8°C at TA = 45°C to +85°C. It is used in notebook computers, desktop computers, servers, workstations, test and measurement equipment.
  • Supply voltage range from 3V to 3.6V, compatible with 65nm process technology
  • ACPI compliant, operating temperature range from -40°C to 125°C
  • Measure one local and two remote temperatures, 1.45V power-on reset threshold
  • 11bit, +0.125°C resolution, 100KHz serial clock frequency
  • Remote temperature sensing accuracy is ±1.5°C between +60°C and +100°C with no calibration
  • Remote temperature error of ±1.5°C at TRJ = +25°C to +100°C (TA = +45°C to +85°C)
  • Programmable under/overtemperature alarms and programmable conversion rate
  • Standby supply current of 10µA, operating current of 0.5mA
  • Three alarm outputs, ALERT (active-low), OT1 (active-low) and OT2 (active-low)
  • SMBus/I2C compatible interface
