Product Overview
The MAX8546EUB+T is a low cost, wide input range, step-down controller with foldback current limit in 10 pin µMAX package. It drives low cost N-channel MOSFETs for both the high side switch and synchronous rectifier & require no external current sense resistor. Lossless short circuit and current-limit protection is provided by monitoring the RDS(ON) of the low-side MOSFET. It has a current-limit threshold of 165mV. Device features foldback-current capability to minimize power dissipation under short circuits. Pulling the COMP/EN pin low with an open-collector or low-capacitance, open-drain device can shut down device. IC is compatible with low cost aluminium electrolytic capacitors. Input undervoltage lockout prevents proper operation under power-sag operations to prevent external MOSFETs from overheating. Internal soft-start is included to reduce inrush current. It is used in set-top boxes, telecom power supplies, cable modems & routers, graphic card and video supplies.
