LT1585ACT#PBF

LT1585ACT#PBF is a low dropout 3-terminal regulator with 5A output current capability. Design has been optimized for low voltage applications where transient response and minimum input voltage are critical. Similar to the LT1084 family, these regulators feature lower dropout voltage and faster transient response. These improvements make it ideal for low voltage microprocessor applications requiring a regulated 2.5V to 3.6V output with an input supply below 7V. Current limit is trimmed to ensure specified output current and controlled short-circuit current. On-chip thermal limiting provides protection against any combination of overload that would create excessive junction temperatures. Applications include Pentium® processor supplies, PowerPC™ supplies, other 2.5V to 3.6V microprocessor supplies, low voltage logic supplies, battery-powered circuitry, post regulator for switching supply.

• Fast transient response, guaranteed dropout voltage at multiple currents
• Trimmed current limit, on-chip thermal limiting
• Reference voltage is 1.250V typical at ((VIN – VOUT) = 3V, TJ = 25°C, IOUT = 10mA)
• Load regulation is 0.05% typical at ((VN – VOUT) = 3V, TJ = 25°C, 10mA ≤ IOUT ≤ IFULL LOAD)
• Current limit is 6A typical at ((VIN – VOUT) = 5.5V)
• Ripple rejection is 72dB typical at ( f = 120Hz, COUT = 100µF Tant., (VIN – VOUT) = 3V, IOUT = 5A)
• Temperature stability is 0.5% typical
• Long-term stability is 0.03% typical at (TA = 125°C, 1000 Hrs)
• RMS output noise is 0.003% typical at (TA = 25°C, 10Hz ≤ f ≤ 10KHz)
• Junction temperature range from 0°C to 125°C, 3-lead plastic TO-220 package
