TI Qi Compliant Wireless Power Solution

Product Description

Texas Instruments’ growing family of wireless power transmitters and receivers, all Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) Qi specification. The bq500410A and bq500211a transmitter managers offer intelligent control of the power transfer between a base station and mobile devices while, the bq5105x and bq5101x families of Qi-compliant integrated receivers provide a regulated DC output and digital-control feedback to the transmitter.

Since the release of the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) specification it has become possible to have highly efficient charging between all Qi compliant systems.

A wireless power system consists of a charging pad (transmitter or primary) and receiver (secondary-side equipment). Coils in both the charging pad and the receiver are magnetically coupled when the two devices make contact. Power transfers from transmitter to receiver via coupled indicators (e.g. an air core transformer). The amount of power transferred is controlled by sending feedback communication (error signals) to the primary device to increase or decrease power. The transmitter coil is powered off most of the time, only occasionally waking to see if a receiver is present. When a receiver authenticates itself, the transmitter remains powered on. Meaning that a charging pad will only activate and charge another Qi device and will not over charge or over heat.

Only Charge What Needs Charging
