Thermal Reed Switch is a type of temperature sensor/switch used for energy conservation. Its unique proprietary design features a magnet and a temperature-sensing soft ferromagnetic substance called Thermorite®. The material’s magnetic flux density decreases as the temperature increases turning it into a paramagnetic substance at the Curie temperature. It’s a proprietary technology designed by Tokin/Kemet.
Thermal Reed Sensors/Switches uses special alloy magnets that cut off and required temperatures. These devices can be used to accurately sense temperature changes in solids, semi-solids, liquids, or gases, and can switch low level signal loads of up to 10W. Unlike bi-metallic strips, the switching point is unaffected by the load current and the switching temperature is highly repeatable between 1°C to 3°C. Thermal Reed Sensors can also be used to switch signal loads as low as 10 micro-amps.
