We offer a wide range of ceramic suppression capacitors for RFI suppression and prevention of electrical shock
What is a suppression capacitor?
The suppression capacitor is the most effective interference component. Its impedance decreases with the frequency, so that we have a short circuit between the mains terminals and/or between the terminals and ground at high frequency. Capacitors for applications between the mains terminals are called X-capacitors.
X-capacitors, also called across the line capacitors, are capacitors with unlimited capacitance for use where their failure due to a short circuit would not lead to the danger of an electric shock. Capacitors for applications between terminals and ground are called Y-capacitors.
Y-capacitors, also called line bypass capacitors, are capacitors which serves to reduce asymmetrical interference voltage, and are located between a live conductor and the metal case which may be touched.
What are suppression capacitors used for?
EMI suppression ceramic capacitors are used in a wide variety of applications, for example, for RFI suppression and prevention of electrical shock to humans and animals. The special features of these certified components are self-extinction in case of fire (UL 94 V-0) and their overvoltage protection. These capacitors are available for both X and Y categories and their subclasses.
The Vishay WKO series AC line rated Single-layer Suppression Ceramic Capacitors consist of ceramic disc both sides of which are silver plated. Connection leads are made of tinned copper having diameters of 0.6 or 0.8mm. The capacitors may be supplied with straight or kinked leads having a lead spacing of 7.5 or 12.5mm. They are suitable for X1, Y2 according to IEC 60384-14.4, and line-by-pass applications.
