Bulgin, manufacturer of the well-established Buccaneer range of circular connectors, has made its 7000 series available in both metal and thermoplastic versions for the first time through Farnell element14.
The 7000 series offers more performance than the Standard Buccaneer, while being smaller than the 900 series.
Both versions share many of the same features, such as IP66, IP68 and IP69K ratings, and the robust “less than a quarter-turn” locking mechanism. They are also fully interchangeable.
They are available in 2, 3, 6, 10 and 32 pole options, with a choice of nickel-plated, cast zinc alloy or UV-resistant, UL94-V0 flammability-rated plastic bodies.
The choice of metal or thermoplastic depends on the intended use. The metal version is generally chosen when a more rugged connector is needed for use in extreme environments (such as exposure to salt spray), or their interface system needs protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI).
The thermoplastic version is more suitable if a cheaper, lightweight solution is desired or if an interconnect system that would be ideal for long-term outdoor use and resistance to UV radiation is required.
